ASANTE SANA

Hello and Happy New Year 2012 to all of you!

In 2012 The Boona-Baana Center is celebrating 10 years of helping Tanzanian children in need. Our aim is to nurture orphans into mature and responsible adults, giving them the tools necessary to live a normal, happy and productive life despite their backgrounds. Together with the Tanzania Adoption Society (www.adoptiontanzania.wordpress.com) we have changed the lives of dozen of babies and children whom otherwise would have been forgotten by our society.

At the Green Door Home, a new school year started at the beginning of January 2012. Our children are really growing up! We thank everyone involved in this process, from the very first volunteers back in 2002 to our most recent one in December 2011.

In 2011 many of our children took Pre-Form 1 classes in order to start Form 1 with a solid base while Eliza, Samwel and Hamida are in primary and Richard is a still in kindergarten. Also we have been getting involved with our community by providing a safe haven for lost children. We have had several cases of children being lost and spending nights at police stations or even in the streets, which is very common here. Therefore we contacted our local police station so they can bring lost children to our Center until their families are found. Our last guest (lost child-Charles, 10 years old) spent 2 nights at a Mosque and 1 night at a police station, on the following day he was told unceremoniously to leave by the officer in charge, he was given no explanation and no help and out of fear he started roaming the streets again. Luckily he met people in the neighborhood who told him that he could get help at the Boona-Baana. He arrived at the Green Door Home one late evening starved, thirsty, afraid and crying. Charles spent 4 days at the Green Door Home before we found his family, boy he was happy! He visited us with his mother a few days back! We are very proud of our children and house mothers for warmly welcoming those children who stay with us on short notice and duration for whatever reasons.

Last but not least, we want to remind you that we still need your help. Your donations keep us going. On the other hand if you would like to see our work and how we do it or you would like to donate your time and skills come as a volunteer for a couple of weeks, we need volunteers. For people in Europe, now you can donate small amounts every once in a while, 20 Euros can buy us 10 kilos of rice and 10 kilos of beans, a little goes a long way. For detailed information on how to go about it; click on this link Donations.

Donations will go towards the children we help in its entirety, as we have done since the beginning.

Again, we wish everyone a benevolent 2012!
